Acid reflux question (Prilosec OTC)?

Frage von : Acid reflux question (Prilosec OTC)?
I have been taking Prilosec OTC (Proton Pump Inhibitors) for a year and 4 months to treat symptoms of acid reflux. I ingest one (1) 20mg dose daily to treat symptoms including sore throat and burning sensation in throat. Over the last few weeks, I have been encountering additional symptoms that include chronic cough, throat irritation, and Laryngospasm (feeling like one can’t catch one’s breath), and Continual Throat Clearing. I have researched these symptoms and concluded that I may have laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR). Do to this I have a series of question to ask below for assistance:
•Are there any long term effects of taking Prilosec OTC? I have researched and discovered they may cause osteoporosis in the future. I take calcium citrate to attempt to offset signs of osteoporosis. Is this the correct thing to do? Is there any other long term effects? (i.e.cancer etc.)
•Are there any home remedies (things I can do) to completely cure Acid reflux and laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR)? Currently I am unemployed and do not have any medical insurance so if there is anything I can do at home or buy over the counter to relieve this it would be a great help.
•Would this problem require me to have any type of surgery if left untreated for an extended period of time? (can this be fixed without surgery) How long would this have to linger to force surgery?
•I have not been having a great diet I eat what I want and drink alcohol (once a week) so this might be the root of all this but over time I don’t want to get really sick from this.
•Is acid reflux common?
•Anything else you can tell me to prevent this from getting serious or requiring surgery.
Thank you for your time.

I have had acid reflux, It sounds to me like your having side affects to your medicine. Ask him to change it. Second of all change your diet stick to food that doesn’t affect your reflux. I know it’ll be hard because most the food I love did this to me but my reflux went away.

Okay, throw away the acid blocker stat! New FDA black box warning on all PPI acid blockers is that they increase the risk of fractures and also they suggest only take 3 times a year for 14 days each….this is about time! The damage taking acid blockers long term is heart failure among hundreds of other effects.

If you have a bit of spare change, go to the health food store and purchase digestive enzyme supplements. Not sure how much they cost, but here in Australia they are about $ 30 for 90 tablets so this is good value. Digestive enzyme supplements are so amazingly effective i can’t begin to tell you! If you do have acid reflux from the H Pylori bacteria you will need antibiotics to get rid of it. My mother suffered from GERD and LPR for 5 years and now has neither (after a few weeks!) from only taking digestive enzyme supplements before each meal. Now if you haven’t any money for digestive enzymes, try apple cider vinegar (with the mother in it – stringy bits that contain digestive enzymes). All raw foods contain enzymes so eating cooked, processed foods and not chewing thoroughly all put a strain on your stomach and pancreas. I’ll add some great websites to check out. Here is to your good health.

Make an appointment with a doctor. It looks like LPR, but those symptoms can also indicate cancer. Why take a chance? There are simple surgical procedures, and yes, cancer can be caused by a chronic acid problem. Prilosec won’t help you if you have a physical problem that needs surgery to fix.
